Sheila Munafo- Kanoza, Founder and Executive Director:
Bereavement Support specialist, lector, educator, facilitator, nationally published writer. Her education includes Miami University, American Academy of Bereavement, Nationally Trained/Certified Bereavement facilitator, Nationally Trained Advanced Bereavement facilitator who was trained and worked with specialists and families after the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing and in New York City after “9/11”. She is a commissioned trainer for the National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Nationally Trained Facilitator through the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention for adults, children and teens, a Certified QPR Gate Keeper instructor, a member of Association of Death Education and Counseling, The National Alliance for Grieving Children, The American Academy of Bereavement and Grief Works, The Tri-State Suicide Prevention Coalition, The Partnership for Mental Health, Inc. and The American Association of Suicidology. She co-leads the bereavement ministry at St Maximilian Kolbe parish and the Parish Bereavement Network. She has lead support groups since 1996.

Mike Munafo: Past President and Chairman of the Board
Currently Executive Vice President/Owner at ProLink Staffing Services. Mike has a passion to help others and is working on growing COJ’s fundraising/outreach. COJ is dear to his heart and he understands we have to grow to keep up with the surging demand. Mike is a 2004 graduate of University of Kentucky with a double major in Business Management and Marketing. Mike is currently the Vice President of the Moeller Alumni association and sits on their annual fund board.
Trained through the American Academy of Bereavement as an Advance Grief Facilitator. Received follow-up trainings through NAGC, QPR institute, and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Survivor Support Group Facilitator Training program, and provides training in these areas. For the past the six years he has lead Young Widowed and Men’s Grief groups for CoJ. Tom is a Certified Communicator through Toastmasters, past Parish Council President for a 13000 member Parish, and has published articles about himself and men’s grief. He has also written several successful Grants to support the COJ organization, and provided Web and Facebook support. For the past 30 years have been employed at General Electric and is currently Global Quality Manager for a unique On Wing Support group . He recently retired after 33 years with the Air Force Reserves as a SMSgt (top 2% of enlisted) in Air Logistics presented with two Meritorious Service Medals. Tom is certified in Statistical/Analytics through the Six Sigma Academy and hold a Government clearance. He holds both AS & BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management from the University of Cincinnati.
Ryan Butt: Vice President, Treasurer
Is currently Vice President/Senior Account Executive at Fidelity Investments. While providing wealth management and estate planning guidance to individuals/organizations for the past 10 years, Ryan has realized the true impact charitable giving can have on the community. His past experiences have helped him value the services that COJ provides, and his efforts on the board will focus on outreach and awareness for the organization. Ryan is a 2004 graduate of Ohio University, and 2007 MBA graduate of Northern Kentucky University. He also holds his Certified Financial Planner designation. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys golfing, spending time with his wife and chocolate lab, and supporting the University of Cincinnati athletic programs.
Cheryl Borland: Secretary
Attorney with 20+ year experience in the Cincinnati Area. Cheryl works with small and family owned businesses, as well non-profits.
John Atkinson is an Audit partner in KPMG’s Cincinnati office, currently serving as the lead audit partner for Macy’s, Inc. John has over 30 years of experience as an audit professional serving a range of public and private businesses primarily in the consumer food and retail sectors.
35 years as a Project Manager, Department Manager, estimator, on site construction manager in the manufacture and construction industry. Volunteers for the West Chester Medical facility Emergency Department. Two years’ experience as a metal health technician.
30 years’ experience in Human Resource for P&G. Worked directly with employees on specific issues and benefits including Grief and Loss.
Nurse for 32 years working the oncology and palliative care field. Responsible for staff education and direct care. Worked with Ohio Pain initiative for 25 years. Also served on several local Boards.
Served in both Catholic and parish base ministry for 15 years at LaSalle High school. Full time Teacher, Administrative team member and Campas Ministry. Work with students and educators on various issues.
